The Boston Metro Hi-Railers is the largest Hi-Rail train club of its kind
in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We strive for realism while
accepting the compromises in scale associated with toy train equipment.
The club is re-assembling its layout into a new 40’ by 60’ layout with more
than 1500 feet of O-gauge track capable of running up to twelve
model trains at the same time. The club has set for itself the goal of modeling,
in the approximate scale of 1:48 inches (twice the size of HO trains),
scenes in Pennsylvania, New York State, Massachusetts, and Maine in the mid 1950’s era as railroads were transitioning from steam locomotives to diesel engines. Members run their own equipment on club owned track as they share the enthusiasm for all things trains.
Once the main layout is up and running again the club intends to invite
the public back to its semi-annual open house where the young railfans can
operate trains on layouts built just for them and grownups can marvel at
the exquisite equipment operated by the members.
