In the early 1930’s, Hornby Railroads of Liverpool England created the model trains for young British model railroaders. Hornby Countryside sections gave those modelers a simple way to create a typical British country scene by laying colorful pieces that are decorated with hedges, fences, trees and lanes into their railway layouts.
An interactive display layout will be set up at the Boston Metro High-Railers Open House on December 5. It is done in the style of the Hornby Countryside sections, adjusted to the geometry of traditional Lionel track. British structures and detail parts bring the scene to life and create a proper setting for the antique Hornby tinplate trains. It will be a unique opportunity to see the British origins that inspired early American railroad builders to create the great railway lines that industrialized our young nation.
